Hot Issues

The 2005 legislative session is underway.  Have you contacted your legislator lately?  During session it is essential that you communicate with your legislators regularly.  Let them know how issues impact your community and your shared constituents.

Information Request:
The League needs your help to ensure we protect your state shared revenue.  Please provide LOC with specific examples of what state shared revenue buys in your city (i.e. police officers, fire fighters, parks programs, library hours, economic assistance, job creation and matching funds).  Here is an example of the type of response that will be helpful:

"The City of (X) anticipates the receipt of approximately ($X) in liquor and cigarette taxes-just about enough to put one patrolman on the street.  Because one of the certified officers is funded by a COPS grant that requires a maintenance effort, losing this revenue would cost us two (out of a total of fourteen) police officers."

Please send examples to afogue@orcities.org

2005 City Legislative Priorities include:  financial stability, water rights, land use and telecommunication franchise issues.  For more information on these priorities, click on the link below.
